Half
ใๅ๏ผใฏใ๏ผใใฏใhalfใใจใใๆๅณใงใใ (Han means โhalfโ)
Time | Reading | Explanation |
---|---|---|
0.5็ง | ใใใฆใใใณใใ (rei ten go byou - 0.5 seconds) | |
1ๅๅ๏ผใใฃใทใใฏใ๏ผ | ใใฃใทใ๏ผ30ใณใใ (ippun han - 1 and a half minutes) | 90็ง (kyuu juu byou - 90 seconds) |
2ๆ้ๅ๏ผใซใใใใฏใ๏ผ | ใซใใใ๏ผ30ใตใ (ni jikan han - 2 and a half hours) | 150ๅ (hyaku go juu pun - 150 minutes) |
3ๆๅ๏ผใใใใฏใ | 3:30ๆ (san ji han asa - 3:30 am) ใพใใฏ 3:30ๅๅพ (san ji han gogo - 3:30 pm) | |
1ๆฅๅ๏ผใใกใซใกใฏใ๏ผ | ใใกใซใก๏ผใฏใใซใก (ichi nichi han - 1 and a half days) | |
2ใๆๅ๏ผใซใใใคใฏใ๏ผ | ๏ผใใใค๏ผใฏใใคใ (ni kagetsu han - 2 and a half months) | |
1ๅนดๅ๏ผใใกใญใใฏใ๏ผ | ใใกใญใ๏ผใใฃใใใค (ichi nen han - 1 and a half years) | 18ใๆ (jyuu hachi kagetsu - 18 months) |
We donโt say โhan byouโ, โhan funโ, or โhan jikanโ by putting โhanโ before.
For โdayโ and longer durations, โhanโ can come before the number.
- ๅๆฅ๏ผใฏใใซใก๏ผ (han nichi - half day)
- ๅๆ๏ผใฏใใคใ๏ผ (han tsuki - half month)
- ๅๅนด๏ผใฏใใจใ๏ผ (han toshi - half year)
However, be careful of the pronunciation:
- รใฏใใใค (han getsu - incorrect for half month)
- รใฏใใญใ (han nen - incorrect for half year)
We often use โhan nichiโ, โhan tsukiโ, and โhan toshiโ for approximate halves.
If you want to say exactly half, use โjyuu ni jikanโ, โjyuu go nichiโ, or โroku kagetsuโ.
Others

- There is a clear distinction between โ2ๆ (2 oโclock)โ and โ2ๆ้ (2 hours).โ
- For other units like โ็ง (second),โ โๅ (minute),โ โๆฅ (day),โ โๆ (month),โ and โๅนด (year),โ you can use ้ (kan) or not to express duration.
